What to Know About Ear Candling
Ear candling, or coning, is a non-invasive procedure that helps draw out the wax and debris from your ear canal. This technique has been used for thousands of years as an alternative therapy for improving ear condition and general health. It’s also believed to be helpful in managing headaches, sinus infections, colds, tinnitus, and vertigo.
This procedure is mostly done by spa professionals, aestheticians, and salon specialists. At Skin Health Medi-Spa, we have a team of expertly trained staff who can provide you with a comfortable and therapeutic ear candling experience.
What Happens During Ear Candling
We use ear candles that are made of strips of unbleached cotton and dipped in a mixture of beeswax with rose oil infusion. The candles are usually around 8 to 12 inches long. To start the treatment, you’ll need to lie down on your side with one ear facing up.
We’ll place a towel on your head and neck to provide protection during the procedure. Then, we’ll position the end of the hollow candle in your external ear canal while the wick will be lit. As the candle is allowed to burn, the flame creates a negative pressure that will suction the dark residue of earwax, fluids, and debris until they are removed.
The whole session can last for 15 to 20 minutes until the flame is completely out. Once the procedure is done, the hollow candle is pulled out and you’ll be able to see the earwax that was removed.
